Serkes was founded by Liberian-American designer Fatima Fahnbulleh in 2017. The name derives from the word “Circus”. Ms. Fahnbulleh emigrated to the United States at the age of 8 in 2001 due to a civil war in Liberia at the time. The family settled in Indiana, where she began an interest in art, music and learning about different cultures.
